Environment & Heritage

Our work involves identifying and protecting the environment from nature reserves to flood plains, trees with preservation orders and public open spaces like playing fields or green areas in housing developments. The heritage elements include the Conservation Area, listed buildings and archaeological sites.

We have plans, maps and studies which will help us consider:

  • footpaths, bridleways and protected lanes like Hollow Road, which are protected because they are old or due to their wildlife value as they tend to be undisturbed almost semi ancient ecology
  • the capacity and sensitivity of the existing landscapes around the village to accept new forms of development

  • forms of mitigation that would be needed to blend and screen new development into the landscape.

At the moment we are undertaking a ‘Built Character Assessment’ of the village buildings and areas – to pick out the distinct areas of the current village for architecture, age, materials used.
